Start-ups, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) commonly face funding problems, and crowdfunding has become a popular, alternative funding source. Internationally, financial regulatory organizations have been addressing the relatively new phenomenon of crowdfunding. The International Organization of Securities Commission (IOSCO) has released recommendations - on investors’ protection - to its member and financial regulators.

Recently there have been occurrences of fraud in crowdfunding platforms, so IOSCO recommends undertaking actions related to official registration for crowdfunding, and issuance of licenses to financial regulators.

The FRC is undertaking regulatory actions to draft legislation, and conduct regulation on crowdfunding in the Mongolian financial market. Determining risk-related issues is crucial in order to implement these tasks.
